Eight candidates have already signed up for the 2015 Liberation Day queen title, according to Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, but more applicants are still being sought.

“We introduced two of our candidates last Friday after Skywalker Communications Group encouraged the media to be involved in trying to encourage the public to join in on the Liberation Day festivities but we are still accepting applications,” Apatang told Saipan Tribune during the Nenpou Shinkyo Buddhist Denomination ceremony last Sunday.

The Hong Kong-based Skywalker Communications is the group handling the festivities “and we’re partnering with them…so our office is still committed to be a part of the Liberation Day [festivities], but for more details, Skywalker is the best to get it from,” he added.

Zolenska Yaroitemal, 19, and Eloise Lopez, 17, were both present at the meeting on Friday.

There was an earlier announcement that the deadline to apply to become a Liberation Day queen candidate was on May 15, but Saipan Mayor’s Office special assistant Henry Hofschneider said yesterday that Skywalker is still accepting applications from anyone eligible for the Liberation Day queen candidacy.

Hofschneider said that May 27 is the deadline for new applications. This is prior to the sash and pinning ceremony on May 28 at 10am.

Young females from the ages of 16 to 25 years old are encouraged to join and represent their village, family, company, or organization.

The 2015 Liberation Day Royal Court contestant must be between 16 and 25 years old, female, not married, has no children, a CNMI resident for at least six months and of good moral and ethical character.

Each candidate may have individual sponsors to assist with the costs of competing and each candidate will have the ability to sell Liberation Day raffle tickets to raise funds and host other various approved fundraisers.

Ten percent of each of the candidates’ total fundraising proceeds will go to the candidate.

Applications are now available at the Saipan Mayor’s Office or via email at liberationcnmi@gmail.com.
