Mom calls cops as son allegedly swung machete, yelled at her
Police arrested on Wednesday a 40-year-old man after his mother called the police for allegedly swinging a machete at her house in Susupe and threatening to kill their family.
Morell B. Esteves was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault, and disturbing the peace.
At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $10,000 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for March 9 at 9am.
Police Detective Danica B. Aguon stated in her report that last Monday, the mother called the Department of Public Safety that Esteves was swinging a machete at her house.
A police officer responded and arrested Esteves.
The following morning, Esteves was released from prison. Her mother, however, went to Karidat to file a temporary restraining order and complaint because he was allegedly shouting profanities at her when she refused to accept his apology.
Preliminary investigation showed that when a police officer responded to the scene on Monday, the mother’s hands were shaking and her body was shivering.
Esteves allegedly yelled at the officer to leave as he was not doing anything. The defendant also yelled at her mother for calling the police.
The officer handcuffed Esteves and placed him in the police car as he continued to investigate.
The officer learned that at 7:45am that day, Monday, Esteves came inside the house with a machete and yelling at her mother with profanities.
Esteves went to a neighbor’s house and started to hit their window with the machete, telling them to leave because they never pay rent.
Esteves and his mother then started arguing. He then swung the machete at the filing cabinet.
The mother said she punched her son on the face and she then went inside the house to call the police.
The following day, Tuesday, the mother went to DPS where she filed another complaint against Esteves.
The mother said after Esteves was released from jail last Tuesday, he showed up at her residence at 9am and apologized to her. When she refused to accept his apology because she is tired of him, the defendant allegedly started yelling profanities at her.
Police served an arrest warrant to the defendant in Chalan Kanoa on Wednesday late afternoon.
