Mobil increases gas prices by 10 cents a gallon
Saipan motorists must adjust to another increase in gas prices after Mobil Oil Mariana Islands increased its prices by 10 cents a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline and super unleaded gasoline.
As of Tuesday night, regular unleaded gasoline is at $5.209 per gallon and super unleaded gasoline is at $5.529 per gallon. Diesel prices remain unchanged at $5.669 per gallon.
The 10-cent increase comes after a 15-cent increase in June. Previously, prices of regular and super unleaded gasoline sat at $5.109 and $5.429 per gallon respectively.
As of yesterday afternoon, gas prices at Shell Marianas have remained the same, with V-Power at $5.109 per gallon and diesel at $5.669. However, they are expected to change, as Shell and Mobil historically mirror each other’s prices.
Reactions from motorists to the gas price increase varied.
Kevin Jardinero, who drives from his home in As Lito to his job at Hyatt Regency Saipan in Garapan, said gas prices are “getting too close to minimum wage.” The CNMI’s minimum wage currently stands at $5.55 per hour. Jardinero said, “You really have to think your route” in order to use gas more effectively.
Another motorist, Shelane Borja of Dandan, said the price increase is “not too drastic” and that she expects prices to “go up and down.” (Dennis Chan)
