Continuing its dedication to train and develop its providers and nursing staff, Marianas Medical Center just completed two training courses in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The team of nine staff passed the BLS course and seven clinical staff passed the ACLS course under the tutelage of the American Heart Association Life Support instructor Douglas Miller at the Commonwealth Health Center.
“This crucial training prepares our team in lifesaving techniques, emergency equipment usage, and appropriate course of cardiac support intervention in different cases of cardiac arrests,” said Kwon Sohn, head nurse, who coordinated the trainings.

The techniques of Basic Life Support are the level of medical care that are used for victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries until they can be given full medical care at a hospital.

The other training that the team received was Advanced Cardiac Life Support. This type of training refers to a set of clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest, stroke, and other life threatening medical emergencies, as well as the knowledge and skills to deploy those interventions. Only qualified health care providers, such as physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses, can provide ACLS, as it requires the ability to manage the patient’s airway, initiate IV access, read and interpret electrocardiograms, and understand emergency pharmacology.

The biannual training is just part of the continuous training programs that Marianas Medical Center provides its staff. By successfully completing this special training, Marianas Medical Center staff, including doctors, nurses, and office staff, are fully updated on current protocol and recommendations in delivering critical life saving techniques. Marianas Medical Center focuses on training its staff that allows them to receive multiple nationally recognized certifications related to medical care.

“Our goal in training staff is to keep current medical knowledge and skills that not only makes them excellent at their job, but that allows them to take the skills with them, anywhere they may go. It will ultimately help provide a high standard of care we deliver to this community,” said Dr. Tony Stearns, owner of Marianas Medical Center.

Marianas Medical Center’s goal is to enhance its services to build upon the quality care its team of medical professionals provides. They have three full time medical providers, and provide complete family health care including adolescent and adult medicine, pediatric, well-child care and immunization, urgent care, prenatal care, labor and delivery, and general physical exams including food handler, school, FAA and green card, and drivers examinations.
