Mister leads finishers in elementary races

Whispering Palms’ Dylan Mister had a winning debut in the third leg of the Northern Marianas Athletics’ 2016 All Schools Cross Country Series held last Saturday at the CPA Airport Field.

Mister, who missed the first and second legs of the series, completed the one-mile run in 6:40 to lead 68 other finishers in the one-lap race and top the boys U11 division contest. He was the lone runner in his age group to cap the race under the seven-minute mark and also recorded the best time so far this season, beating the 7:22 of Dandan Middle School’s Ron Muna in Series 1 and 7:04 of Hopwood Junior High School’s Coume Kaga in Series 2.

The Whispering Palms student finished way ahead of Saipan Community School’s Daniel Wang, who timed in at 8:15, while San Vicente Elementary School’s Taylor Huddy rounded out the Top 3 after checking in at 9:20.

Other finishers in the boys U11 division were Eucon International School’s John Yu (9:46), Agape Christian School’s Jack Xue (10:17), Zi Heng Hu (13:06), and Jason Yang (13:56), and San Vicente’s Aizeah Hocog (10:26), Dante Katosang (11:28), Antonio Cabrera (11:55), and Ravin Sablan (12:22).

In the girls U12 division, Saipan International School’s Chae Lian Jung clocked in at 8:17 to beat eight other runners in her age group. She won against Agape’s Elvira Meng (8:18), Mei Ting Song (10:57), and Lyn Zhao (13:41), SCS’ Kati Choi (8:19), Chloie Seo (8:26), and Anika Camacho (9:02), and San Vicente’s Emiling Mendiola (12:50) and Chelsea Lorenzo (13:09).

Meanwhile, San Vicente ruled two other divisions, while SIS and SCS split the top honors in two more races.

Vincent Palacios’ 8:04 gave the Canaries the win in the boys U7 division, while his schoolmate Kian Helgen prevailed in the boys U9 age group after logging 7:51.

San Vicente had a 1-2-3 finish in the boys U7 division after Kymo Porras and Chase Torres registered 9:27 and 9:35, respectively. Ten other runners from Agape, SCS, Mt. Carmel School, and San Vicente also completed the race.

In the boys U9 division, Nicholas Taisacan made it a Top 2 finish for San Vicente after his 7:53 beat the 8:16 of SCS’ Alfred Baek. Eleven other runners competed in the division.

In the girls U7 age group, SIS’ Phoenix Gross defeated two San Vicente runners for the center spot in the podium. Gross clocked in at 9:57 to take top honors in the division, beating San Vicente’s Bille Pangelinan (10:03) and Madison Dela Rosa (10:03). The girls U7 age group had seven other finishers.

In the girls U9, SCS’ Hilah Bacani made it three in a row after posting 8:47 and winning against 11 other runners. Bacani, who clocked in at 8:47 and 7:43 in her victory in the first two legs, was joined n the Top 2 by San Vicente’s Jeyianan Crisostimo (9:26) and fellow SCS student Jenny Zhang (9:45).
