Saipan Southern High School beats Kagman High School in one of last season's Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Outrigger events held at Kilili Beach. (Walter Sutherland) As the Public School System prepares for the start of the school year Tuesday, the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization is also planning its 2011-2012 sports schedule.

The sport seasons are divided into three segments throughout the semester.

The association is requesting for all interested schools to contact them as soon as possible to confirm in which sports they would like to participate.

General feedback is also welcome to help MISO better improve its programs.

“Our goal is to make every season even better than the last. That being said, the general public is a stakeholder in the success of our programs and we are asking for new ideas, criticisms (whether positive or negative) and anything else that can help us achieve our objective. The sooner we find out how many teams we have for each sport, the sooner we can plan out the budgets and game schedules,” said MISO acting president Nick Gross in an email on Wednesday.

Currently, the MISO sports schedule is mapped out to offer varsity and junior varsity girls basketball, varsity boys volleyball, boys and girls varsity cross country from September through November, and hope to organize boys varsity baseball starting sometime in early October.

Soon after, MISO will offer junior and varsity boys basketball, varsity girls volleyball, and varsity girls soccer from December to February 2012.

Then from March through May 2012, MISO plans to offer girls varsity fast-pitch softball, varsity boys soccer, as well as both boys and girls varsity track and field, outrigger canoeing and golf.

Gross said increased parent involvement and help from local volunteers are always in demand.
