Mini Games fundraiser for NMI men’s 3×3 team
The Mariana Islands Basketball Federation team will be holding a fundraising tournament next month with its proceeds going to the CNMI national men’s 3×3 basketball team that will compete in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu later this year.
The fundraising tournament will run from Nov. 2 to 5 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium and will have competitions in the following age groups, Under 15 and U18 in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, and men’s and women’s open and masters (men’s). Registration fee is $50 per team.
The 3×3 basketball event will be making its debut in the Pacific Mini Games after the International Olympic Committee added the program to the Summer Games, which will be played for the first time in Tokyo 2020. P ort Vila will be hosting the 10th edition of the quadrennial sporting event, a scaled down version of the Pacific Games, from Dec. 4 to 15. More than 2,000 athletes and officials are expected to attend the close to two-week competition.
MIBF secretary general Elias Rangamar said the men’s 3×3 team is short in funds for the trip to Vanuatu.
“The [MIBF] in an effort to secure the necessary funding for this trip, will be organizing a 3×3 basketball tournament and dinner show to help defray some of the costs for the trip,” added Rangamar.
He is inviting teams that competed in the national qualifiers and all basketball fans to support the tournament.
“Your assistance will help our efforts to keep our youths and community’s energy channeled in a positive direction, promoting healthy lifestyles through sports competitions.”
Rangamar said players who have not registered on 3x3planet.com must sign up by creating a profile. The deadline for payment of the $50 registration fee is on Oct. 31, Tuesday.
