MINA launches Plastic Bag Challenge

With the holiday season in full force, the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance is giving the community a chance to win exciting prizes through their Plastic Bag Challenge 12 Days of Giveaways.

From now through Dec. 30, 2014, people who use any type of reusable or eco-friendly bag at any grocery store and snap a photo of themselves using it at the checkout counter can enter MINA’s Plastic Bag Challenge 12 Days of Giveaways for a chance to win one of the daily prizes, and all qualifying participants will receive a reusable travel mug. They must post their photo on MINA’s Facebook page with a caption #iChooseToReuse.

According to program manager Becky Furey, “the Plastic Bag Challenge partners with businesses and aims to reduce the amount of plastic bags that end up in the environment. They are one of the most commonly littered items in the CNMI. With the community’s support, we can reduce plastic pollution on land and sea. MINA wants to reward those that refuse plastic bags at the checkout counter. We encourage everyone to be more environmentally conscious during this holiday shopping season.”
