The Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance recently gave an early Christmas gift to CNMI students with the donation of an educational video about marine debris prevention to the Public School System.

MINA presented the video to acting Education Commissioner Glenn Muna and Rose Ada Hocog, communications and outreach coordinator for PSS, for distribution throughout the CNMI’s bilingual classrooms for inclusion in their curriculum.

MINA produced the educational video about marine debris prevention using a grant received from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.

The film features Ponce and Merissa Rasa and family, Romeo and Lorna Iginoef, Mallory Muna, Wayne Dawe, and Daniel Kaipat. The film highlights the dangers of marine debris and its hazards to the marine environment, and brings awareness to the students of the seriousness of the situation.

MINA acknowledged the help of the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Chamorro/Carolinian Language Affairs Commission, and PSS for making this film possible.

MINA would also like to acknowledge the hard work put into the production of this film by scriptwriters Jolly Ann Cruz, grant writer Brooke Nevitt, production assistance from KSPN, translation services of Manuel Borja, and narration by Bob Coldeen, Patricia Kapileo, and Jonas Barcinas.

In addition, MINA also presented Muña with copies of the award-winning film My Haggan Dream, the story of a young girl’s mission to understand the fragile existence of the green sea turtle and her commitment to preserve the turtle for future generations.
