(Walter Sutherland)  Mike “Palaksi” Sablan topped a field of 19 golfers and was declared the X-clusive Golfers Association’s February Ace following the group’s monthly event held at the Marianas Country Club last Feb. 25.

Sablan started out with a 40 on the front nine and matched the effort after the round for an even raw count of 80 that was adjusted into a 65 net tally. He also won the closest to the pin in hole No. 8.

Three strokes back was Ray Villagomez who scratched a 42 on the front and finished with a 44 for a gross score of 86 that worked into a 68 net result.

John Reyes matched Villagomez’s card but settled for third place after the handicap adjustment with a 70 net score.

The win qualified Sablan to compete in the yearend Ace of Aces tournament along with January Ace J.J. Cabrera.

In addition, Ernest Sablan was awarded the closest to the pin in hole No. 6; Joey Dela Cruz in hole No. 12; and Ned Norita took hole No. 16.

The XGA is made up of about 30 members and is currently accepting new members until Thursday, March 1. In contrast to its name, the XGA wants the public to know that anyone can join the club, male or female.

Newcomers are required to pay a $50 annual fee in addition to a club uniform ($25). Membership renewal for returning members is only $40.

On the day of events, players are also required to pay a green fee along with an additional $30 tournament fee that goes to toward the awards banquet, prize money, and incentives for the club.
