Marianas High School teams continue to lord it over their opponents in the 2014-2015 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Volleyball League.

The Lady Dolphins squeezed out a hard-earned 25-21, 25-20, 15-12 decision over its counterpart at Saipan International School, while MHS’ junior varsity side had an easy 25-11, 25-13, 15-11 win against Mt. Carmel School JV last Thursday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The Lady Dolphins, with MHS coach Jacoby Winkfield fielding his regular starting unit, managed to thwart every comeback bid by the SIS Lady Geckos to turn things to their favor.

Shanna Flores, Knohlynn Gechig, Emily Jones, Beryl Kohnen, Sabrina Pangelinan, and Zarinae Sapong played solid defense and offense to power MHS V to its fourth straight win and remain on top of the 11-team field.

The Geckos fell short to MHS V, as fatigue may have catch up with SIS, which played back-to-back games that day. The Geckos dropped their second straight match after they also absorbed a 25-23, 27-25, 15-7 setback against the Grace Christian Academy Eagles in an earlier game

MHS, in an earlier contest, downed Mt. Carmel in an all-JV showdown in the first game with the Lady Dolphins remaining undefeated after three matches.

In other featured games, Kagman High School outsmarted Saipan Southern High School, 25-21, 25-23, 15-10, and Mt. Carmel bounced back from an opening-set loss to foil GCA’s attempt for a second consecutive victory, 20-25, 25-20, 15-12.

The match between the junior varsity squads of Kagman and Saipan Southern will be rescheduled due to school van issues.

Meanwhile, action continues tomorrow with SIS taking on Saipan Southern and Mt. Carmel facing off Kagman in an all-JV opening matches at 4:15pm.

The 5:15pm and 6pm games will be an all-varsity affair with Kagman battling GCA and MHS playing back-to-back matches, as the Lady Dolphins will first meet Saipan Southern before closing out against GCA. Mt. Carmel collides with SIS in the last match. (Jon Perez)
