MHS, KHS represent Saipan in clash with Guam
Marianas High School and Kagman High School would be representing Saipan in a competition hosted by the University of Guam to showcase the meeting of creativity, energy efficiency, and architecture in the 2017 Green Dream Home competition.
The competition enables students in Guam and the CNMI to come up with an energy-efficient home design that would thrive in the region’s island setting.
The first place winners for the 2017 islandwide Green Dream Home competition is MHS’ Dolphinatic Architects, which consists of Ian Cataluna, Michaela Gatdula, Jewel Cubangbang, Marie Manebo, Hajin Oh, and Melissa Santos.
Kagman High School came in second and consists of Rhea Adolfo, Catalina Cabrera, Maureen Mendiola, and Aira Ngalongalo.
Coached by Public School Systems’ STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Fair director Jeaniffer Cubangbang, the Dolphinatic Architects’ Michaela Gatdula told Saipan Tribune that the experience has brought them together.
“Being able to win first place with my team was such an honor, knowing that all the hard work did not go to waste,” said Gatdula.
“Going through the process really made us all close, which was also a blessing, knowing that it also made us a family.”
The theme for the competition this year is the school setting. Participants would design a school campus that is able to “encompass environmental sustainability.”
The regional competition would be held at the Hyatt Regency Saipan on April 17, 2017, with winners presenting at the 8th Island Sustainability Conference on April 20, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
