MHS bets win; SSHS, KHS top teams

Marianas High School bets ruled the boys and girls individual titles, while Saipan Southern High School and Kagman High School topped the boys and girls divisions, respectively, when the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization golf league ended its 2014-2015 season last Friday at the Lao Lao Bay Golf & Resort.

MHS’ Daniel Han clinched the boys’ trophy after firing a 31-under 113 in the four Thursdays they played in the 9-hole event at Lao Lao’s west course.

The boys’ used the 3,148-yard white tee while the girls’ at the 2,704-yard red tee from holes No. 10 to 18.

Kagman’s Michael Muna came in second, while Su Young of MHS finished third.

Su A Kim, Han’s teammate with the Dolphins, carded a 19-under 125 to rule the girls side.

Imma Litulumar and Romana Chong, both from the Lady Ayuyus, were the second and third place finishers in the girls’ side.

The Jimie Horath-coached Saipan Southern, on the other hand regained the boys crown it last won in 2012.

Ivan Seo, Jae Lee, Ju Hwon Bae, Joong Min Lee, and Jee Seong Son had a combined score of 71-under to dethrone Kagman.

Kagman was 10 shots back at 61-under while MHS tallied 51-under.

It was the Manta Rays’ fourth overall title as they clinched three straight boys crown from 2010 to 2012.

The Ayuyus were the inaugural golf champions in 2009 and regained the title in 2013 but failed to defend their trophy.

Kagman, meanwhile, got back the girls crown it last won in 2009 as the Lady Ayuyus, co-coached by Marcy Halstead and James Priest, shot 25-under.

The Lady Dolphins went 21-under for runner-up honors, while the Lady Mantas went even par.

Saipan Southern was hoping to win a fifth straight crown after topping the event from 2010 to 2013.

Deevone Anson and Alyssa Cepeda joined Litulumar and Chong in the Kagman girls team.
