In memory of Roy Rechebei
I recently returned to Saipan after being away for awhile and came to one of my favorite places, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. If you haven’t been here already, you will certainly find a friendly staff, a wealth of books, magazines, videos and other media to check out perfectly free. They also have a very nice bike rack, which they were in the process of procuring before I left.
The reason for this letter specifically is to acknowledge one of the library staff who recently passed away, Roy Diaz Rechebei. I first want to express my condolences to his family and friends and the staff at the library who have created a beautiful memorial in his honor.
While I didn’t know Roy other than seeing him regularly at the library, I can say that he helped me many, many times, particularly on the internet. He never got angry at what probably seemed dumb questions, he was always patient, kind and soft-spoken and polite as are all of the staff here at the library. I just wanted to say that I was saddened to hear of his passing and touched by the way the rest of the staff gave tribute to him in a very special way.
There have been many positive changes here at the library since I left, and I suggest if you haven’t already, go check it out and discover the resources and friendly staff. This library is one of the nicest places to come on Saipan and we are fortunate to have it.
