MDX/Blue Haus clobbers Saipan Boys

MDX /Blue Haus had a walk in the park against Saipan Boys, posting an emphatic 97-45 win the first game in the 2011 DLX Basketball Invitational Friendship League last Saturday at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
MDX /Blue Haus limited Saipan Boys to four points in the second quarter to break the game wide open en route to the 52-point victory. Five MDX /Blue Haus scored in double figures in their dominating win with Lauron leading the list after firing 20 points. Mike Palacios added 19, Zack Babauta chipped in 14, and Dexter Tenorio and Ben Lisua contributed 13 and 10, respectively.
Babauta canned two early triples in the first period, which ended with MDX /Blue Haus ahead by only seven, 22-15. Then in the second canto, MDX /Blue Haus pulled away, outgunning Saipan Boys, 22-4, for a commanding 44-19 advantage. Three players made at least six points apiece for MDX in the second-quarter attack.
In the second half, MDX continued to walk away with easy baskets, while Saipan Boys had to bleed for points against their much bigger and faster foes.
Only Gil Gapor broke into double digits for Saipan Boys with his 10 markers.
Konstrak 103, 8 Division 93
In the second game, Konstrak also won by twin digits against 8 Division.
Elgene Mangali led Konstrak 10-point victory, scoring 27 points. Konstrak had a balance offense, as Jun Estolas, Victor Mallari, Jerome Reyes, and Jawn Joyner also contributed double figures. Estolas had 19, Mallari nailed 17, and Reyes and Joyner tallied 13.
Konstrak led from start to finish and also had full control of the match in the second canto. Konstrak was only on top by five after the first period, 23-18, but padded the lead to 15 at halftime, 50-35, with Mangali making eight points and Joyner logging six in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, it was Jerome Reyes’ turn to sizzle for Konstrak, as he knocked in 11 points to keep the team’s distance, 76-65. Mangali teamed up with Reyes in retaining Konstrak’s advantage, as the former hit two triples and added eight more markers. Mangali went on to drain two more triples in the final canto, while his five other teammates also made it to the scoreboard in the fourth to secure the win.
J.R. Ngeskebei top-scored for 8 Division with 32 markers, but only him and Leo Factor posted double figures in the loss with the latter drilling 17.
