MCS Varsity sweeps regular season

Mt. Carmel School Varsity finished the elimination round of the 2019-2020 Public School System Interscholastic Boys High School Basketball League with a perfect record after winning a pair of matches last Thursday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
MCS Varsity first routed Saipan International School, 35-19, before posting another easy victory over MCS 2, 41-11, to wrap up the round-robin preliminaries with an 11-0 record.
With their undefeated mark, the Knights will be seeded first in the double-elimination playoff round that will take place this Friday and Saturday, also at the MHS Gymnasium.
The first round pairings have yet to be released, but MCS Varsity will be joined in this weekend’s competition by the eight other teams that made the grade in the elimination and Tinian. Qualifying along with the Knights and the No. 5 seed Tinian Stallions are No. 2 seed Kagman High School Junior Varsity (9-2), No.3 Saipan Southern High School (9-2), No. 4 SIS (7-4), No. 6 Agape Christian School (7-3), No. 7 MHS Varsity (7-4), No. 8 MHS 3 (4-7), No. 9 KHS Varsity (3-7), and No. 10 KHS 3 (3-8). MHS JV (2-7), MCS 2 (0-9), and Da’Ok Academy (0-8) missed the cut.
KHS 3 took the final playoff seat following its 43-36 win over KHS Varsity last Thursday.
In other results in the final set of regular season games, MHS 3 dominated MCS 2 on the north court, 37-15, while MHS Varsity crushed KHS Varsity, 45-21. On the south end, Saipan Southern edged Agape, 32-29.
