Mt. Carmel School Varsity notched a pair of wins, while Saipan International School also went 2-0 in last Thursday’s games in the 2019-2020 Public School System Interscholastic Boys High School Basketball League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The Knights were first handed an easy victory (forfeiture) against Da’Ok Academy and then downed Saipan Southern High School, 39-20, to improve to a 7-0 record and tie Kagman High School Junior Varsity for first place in the team standings. Saipan Southern absorbed its first loss in seven games and dropped to second place in the rankings in the elimination round.

SIS also played two games last Thursday, topping MHS Varsity in its first assignment, 29-19, before edging Agape Christian School in the second one, 26-17. The Geckos now hold a 5-2 slate for a share of fourth place with Agape.

In other results, KHS Varsity earned its third win in six games following a 40-21 triumph over the winless MCS Junior Varsity.

MHS 3 took win No. 2 after prevailing over KHS 3, 24-16.

Meanwhile, elimination round games will resume tomorrow with three matches each set on the north and south courts.

On the north court, MCS 2 will attempt to enter the win column when it meets KHS 3 in the first game. In the second tiff, MCS Varsity will try to keep its clean slate when it duels MHS V, while KHS will return to the same court to challenge Da’Ok Academy.

In the first game on the south court, Da’Ok will face MHS 3, while in the second match, MCS 2 will square off against the unbeaten KHS JV. In the last match, it will be KHS V versus MHS JV.

Only the Top 10 out of the 12 squads after the elimination round will advance and join Rota and Tinian teams to the playoffs.
