MCS to hold 3rd Annual Spring Band Concert
Two-day celebration of music is happening on May 14-15
The Mount Carmel School music program is hosting its 3rd Annual Spring Band Concert at the Mount Carmel Cathedral on May 14 and 15. Admission is free, but tickets and seating are limited, in compliance with current COVID safety guidelines. Masks are required to be worn at all times on both days.
Day 1 of the concert will feature performances from the MCS Beginning Band, MCS Concert Band, and MCS 5th Grade Recorder Ensemble, while Day 2 will feature the MCS Jazz Knights, MCS Wind Orchestra, and a special collaboration with the Su-san Band. The bands will play a wide variety of music, including but not limited to classics from Disney movies, traditional concert band and jazz pieces, and an anime opening theme.
Although referred to as the school’s 3rd Annual Spring Band Concert, the last concert was held in 2019, with 2020’s concert canceled due to the pandemic. A year later, music teacher/band director Julian Greening is just grateful that the concerts is about to happen.
“A lot of places around the world are having [issues with] holding a live concert due to COVID-19, but we are lucky and blessed to have a live concert here on island. I would like to say [a] huge thank you to Mount Carmel School, administrators, teachers, Mount Carmel Cathedral, band parents/guardians, students, Su-san Band and others who are involved with the MCS band activities for [being] able to hold this event,” said MCS band director Julian Greening.
Tickets for the event must be requested beforehand, and can be requested by emailing Greening at julian.greening@mcsknights.com. Greening requests that the desired attendance date(s) and how many tickets are wanted should be specified in the email.
