MCS to begin online classes on Monday, Aug. 17
Throughout this week, Mount Carmel School families were scheduled to pick their child’s Student Resource Packets in preparation for the start of online classes next week Monday, Aug. 17, 2020. (MCS)
Mount Carmel School is set to begin online classes on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020. The school was originally scheduled to begin its hybrid course schedule on Aug. 6, 2020, but due to a delay in the shipment of safety equipment MCS decided to postpone the start of face-to-face classes until Aug. 31, 2020, pending Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’s issuance of guidelines for face-to-face classes.
On Aug. 12 and 13, 2020, Mount Carmel School also held a “Online Launch Orientation” on Facebook Live to engage with families about Mount Carmel’s online tools, expectations, and student schedules as families prepare for the start of online classes.
Throughout this week (Aug. 10 to 14) Mount Carmel School also scheduled specific grade-levels to pick up resource packets that contained login codes and information for online learning platforms like Edmodo, Zoom, Khan Academy, and Achieve3000, as well as textbooks and other school-issued supplies.
“When challenges arise that are beyond our control, we take great pride in our ability to adapt,” said school president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero. “The decision to delay the start of the school year came down to ensuring safety for our school family. Although it’ll be two weeks of online learning, we are working hard to gradually transition our students back to safe face-to-face engagement. Additionally, our community is simply excited and ready to reconnect with our students.”
School principal Frances Taimanao said, “Some families were more ready than others to bring their students back on campus and when it comes to safety for their children we can understand their concern. We are thankful for our families for their continued support and trust in Mount Carmel School. Safety and learning are at the forefront of our efforts and I hope our stakeholders can see that we are truly going above and beyond to keep our students, employees, and community safe.”
