Just in time for the holidays, Mount Carmel School’s Theatre Club presents The Snow Queen, a musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Featuring music from the animated Disney movie Frozen, The Snow Queen will be presented at Saipan World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall ballroom on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 4.

The show is directed by sophomore Jaqueline Doctor, who has been active with the Theatre Club since she was in elementary school. However, while she has acted and served as stage manger, this is her first time directing. When asked about what it feels like, Doctor said, “Directing this show has been exciting and fun, especially working with a great cast and seeing them work together and bloom into their characters.”

She also believes that the show is something everyone should see. “It’s fun for the whole family. You can sing along with Elsa and Anna. …You can totally feel the love through and through.”

The show stars Theatre Club newcomer Yumi Kim as Snow Queen Elsa, and club veteran Keona Camacho as Anna, Elsa’s sister. The show also stars club veterans Markel Toves, Lance Deleon Guerrero, and Jonathan Pangelinan as Kristoff, Hans, and Olaff, respectively. In addition to its star performers, The Snow Queen will also feature several supporting cast members and dozens of elementary students as extras and younger versions of the main characters. Just about everyone in the show, including crew members, will be included in several choreography pieces throughout the show.

Given the importance of music to the show, Galvin Deleon Guerrero, school president and club adviser, announced that the club has invested in several stage microphones in order to ensure that everyone is heard. “The music and singing in this show are too precious not to be heard, so these mikes will help all our lead actors and actresses,” Deleon Guerrero said.

Popularized by the Disney film Frozen, The Snow Queen tells of a queen who struggles with her magical ability to conjure ice and snow out of thin air, a power that threatens to destroy her kingdom and her family.

Tickets for the Mount Carmel School Theatre Club’s production of The Snow Queen are available at the school’s Business Office for $25 for premiums seats, $10 for preferred seats, and $5 for general admission. For more information, call 235-1251 or visit www.mountcarmelsaipan.com. (MCS)
