Mount Carmel School outpaced ChaCha Ocean View Middle School, 38-30, in the last minutes of the IT&E Interscholastic Boys Middle School Basketball League 2022-2023 last Monday night at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The Knights and Lancherus traded baskets in the first half—never letting the other get too far ahead. In between, the Knights’ James Matsumoto and David Camacho controlled the ball and ended the first half 17-12.

The second half opened up with a shot from 3-point country by Matsumoto, but the Lancherus crept up and were not too far behind. At this point, Matsumoto scored 13 points with the highest scoring COVMS player being Santiago Seman with 8.

With the last three minutes on the clock left—it was still a close game—but as pressure mounted along with the countdown of the clock, the Lancherus missed some opportunity to score while the Knights made a series of quick, accurate passes and hit multiple shots within the paint to pull ahead by a comfortable margin of eight points.

The Lancherus could not retaliate further as time expired.

In other results that day, Agape Christian School won a lopsided game against Grace Christian Academy, 45-8; and Hopwood Middle School notched a win against Tanapag Middle School, 39-11.
