Mount Carmel School recently inducted 13 of its students into its National Honor Society, the nation’s premier organization that recognizes outstanding high school students.
The new members of the chapter organization are Rikki Carmen Camacho, Savannah Lynn Delos Santos, Amalina Evangelista, Emiri Iwai, Cathryn Jane Javier, Bo Min Jun, Michelle Kautz, Andrea Manese, Thomas Manglona II, Jonathan Pangelinan, Itchakomi Romolar, Masami Sato, Jun Hyun “Tony” Son, and Franchesca Tomokane.

Being inducted into the prestigious society was a personal triumph for Franchesca Tomokane. “For me, it’s such a privilege because I never thought I would get in. This proves to me that everything is possible if you put your all into it,” she said.

The 13 students were selected by a faculty council that reviewed applications from sophomores and upperclassmen who have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 and have demonstrated volunteerism, exemplary behavior, and leadership.

The induction ceremony was held last week at Mount Carmel Cathedral and was keynoted by Juanet Sablan, 2005 AlumKnight and former MCS National Honor Society member.

In her message, Sablan emphasized how both the society and her alma mater helped her succeed in college and in her career. Admitting that she used to be a very shy person, she recounted how she eventually became much more outgoing and confident by entering the field of human resources.

Sablan called on all students, not just members of NHS, to live the society’s values of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

After the ceremony, the inductees and their families were treated to light refreshments at the school’s faculty lounge.

Established in 1921, the National Honor Society has more than one million student members. Mount Carmel School’s Sacred Heart Chapter of the NHS started in 1997.
