MCS holds student activities fair with new STUCO officers
Over 200 middle school and high school students participated in Mount Carmel School’s Student Activities Fair held this past Wednesday, Sept. 9. Held at the start of every school year and sponsored by the Student Council, the fair highlights the many extracurricular activities available at the school. Throughout the fair, middle school and high school students perused the booths of sponsoring clubs and organizations in order to learn more about the various activities and to sign up for those that interest them.

This year’s fair included booths from the school’s athletic teams, Math Court, Mock Trial, the National Speech and Debate Association, Red Cross Club, Theatre Club, Dance Club, and a new club, the MCS Pep Squad. Now that clubs and organizations are up and running, they will shift their attention to the upcoming Student Leadership Retreat, in which all activities for the year will be planned out.
The fair comes on the heels of last week’s Student Council elections, which ushered in a new set of council officers for the year. Youth Congress Speaker and journalist Thomas Lee A. Manglona II was elected president, along with Markel Toves as vice president, Amalina Evangelista as treasurer, Janika Taimanao as secretary, and Sun Hun Ryu as moderator. All officers are seniors at the school.
Manglona looks forward to a great year. “I ultimately hope to add to the list of reasons people love this school. Supporting programs, sports teams, and overall student interest in a fun and productive way is our mission this year.”
Asked why he ran for the position, Manglona said that the school “contributed to my maturity not only as a student but as a member of the island community. Before officially becoming an AlumKnight, I want to give back to MCS just as much as it has given to me.” (MCS)
