Over 200 middle school and high school students participated in Mount Carmel School’s Student Activities Fair held last Wednesday, Aug. 17. Held at the start of every school year and sponsored by Student Council, the fair highlights the many extracurricular activities available at the school. Throughout the fair, middle school and high school students used the booths of sponsoring clubs and organizations in order to learn more about the various activities and to sign up for those that interest them.
This year’s fair included booths from the school’s athletic teams, Math Court, Mock Trial, the National Speech and Debate Association, Red Cross Club, Theatre Club, and a new club, “Gamers Uknighted,” a club for gamers whose name is a nod to the school’s mascot. Now that clubs and organizations are up and running, they will shift their attention to the upcoming Student Leadership Retreat, in which all activities for the year will be planned out.
The students were very excited about the many activities available to cater to the diverse interests of students. As Jonelle Toskas, a junior, puts it, “I liked how there are more options this year.” She added, “I’ve actually signed up for nine clubs!”
Fellow junior, Jeff Melchor, agreed and even went so far as to take the initiative to coordinate the school’s participation in the International Thespian Society. “I want to try something new, and this is something that I’ve been thinking about doing for quite some time. (PR)
