McDonald’s signs up as Field of Heroes sponsor
The McDonald’s franchise on Saipan and Guam is now an official sponsor of the annual Field of Heroes commemoration ceremony.
Yesterday, McDonald’s Saipan and Guam donated $1,000 to the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, which will spearhead the 3rd Annual Field of Heroes ceremony that commemorates the lives of those who died during the 9/11 tragedy, and those who lost their lives while serving their country.
According Marcia Ayuyu, McDonald’s Saipan and Guam owner, McDonald’s just wants “to show our support for the community in every way that we can.”
Ayuyu said that McDonald’s strongly believes in keeping the memory of the nation’s fallen alive.
“We are proud to contribute to our fallen heroes because we shouldn’t forget what they did for us. They protected our country,” she said.
Catherine Attao-Toves, TanHoldings vice president for corporate affairs/corporate HR, said the Field of Heroes event is intended “to promote community awareness and to remember our heroes.”
Attao-Toves said the event is set around Sept. 11 to show appreciation and gratitude to all military veterans, first responders, fire law enforcement officers, and fallen heroes.
“The money raised will be given to the Northern Marianas Humanities Council…to help with post-traumatic stress. …We want to continue to support our military families and our heroes that are coming back home…and our community heroes,” she said.
The Tan Siu Lin Foundation is encouraging the community to gather at the Garapan Fishing Base on Sept. 11, at 4:30pm.
“We are going to do our freedom walk at 5pm to the American Memorial Park and immediately following will be the 9/11 tribute ceremony,” said Attao-Toves.
Individuals interested in supporting the cause can make flag and T-shirt orders at the JP Center in Garapan or at the Shirley’s Coffee Shop in Susupe. Flags can be ordered for $10 and will be posted at the American Memorial Park on the day of the event and T-shirts cost $15 each.
