Northern Marianas Athletics will be holding qualifiers for the 15th Annual McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championships next month meet to trim down the number of participants in the field and sprint events in the May finals.

The qualifiers are set for April 4 to 6 and April 9 to 13—from 4pm to 6:30pm at the Oleai Sports Complex. The 15th Annual McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championships will run from May 9 to 12 also at the Oleai Sports Complex.

The series of qualifiers is for high jump, long jump, discus, javelin throw, shot put, and softball throw, and in the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 400m runs.

Schools are limited to three entries in each of the above-mentioned events, while there is no limit in the number of entries per school in the middle (800m and 1500m) and long distance (3000m) runs. All schools are automatically qualified for the relay events.

“We can’t spend the whole day doing only one event. The competition would be longer if we accommodate everyone in each event, so to avoid this we need a qualifying tournament,” NMA development officer Elias Rangamar told Saipan Tribune.

Elementary school students (Under 7, U9, and U11) will start their qualifying events on April 4 and 5 for the 60m, 100m, and 200m runs, and long jump, while April 10 and 11 are reserved for the 400m, 800m, and 1500m runs, and softball throw.

Middle school students (U15 and U13) will have their qualifying dates on April 6 (60m, 100m 200m, javelin throw, and long jump) and April 12 (400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m runs, and discus throw, shot put, and high jump).

April 9 (60m, 100m, and 200m runs, and javelin throw, and long jump) and April 13 (400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m runs, and discus throw, shot put, and high jump) are reserved for high school students (U15 and U18).

Rangamar added that Green Meadows School, Northern Marianas International School, and the Seventh-day Adventist School would also compete this year, joining previous participants Saipan Community School, Gregorio T. Camacho, William S. Reyes, Agape Christian School, Grace Christian Academy, Oleai, Kagman, Koblerville, Saipan International School, San Vicente, Garapan, and Mt. Carmel School. Tinian and Sinapalo will complete the elementary division.

SCS, SIS, MCS, ACS, Marianas Baptist Academy, Hopwood, Chacha, Tanapag, Francisco M. Sablan, Dandan, Tinian Junior High School, and Rota’s Dr. Rita Inos Junior High School are entered in the middle school, while ACS, MBA, MCS, SCS, SIS, Marianas, Kagman, Saipan Southern, Tinian, and Dr. Rita Inos are competing in the high school category.
