McDonald’s Saipan has come forward to support the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance’s largest fundraising event, the Green Gala.
McDonald’s Saipan executive secretary Mable Ayuyu said last Tuesday at McDonald’s’ Chalan Laulau branch that the fastfood chain donated $1,000 to MINA.
She noted that McDonald’s has been implementing environment-friendly policies such as the usage of recycled materials for their food packaging. “Fifty percent of our packaging comes from sustainable resources. …Our goal is 100 percent of our packaging to come from renewable resources, or recycled and certified sources,” Ayuyu said.
The most recent change was implemented on their breakfast items. Breakfast bases for rice platters and other breakfast items are not made out of foam anymore.
“Supporting the Green Gala is another way for us to show we support [MINA’s] efforts and challenge ourselves to do the same,” she said.
MINA program manager Becky Furey noted that all contribution support their programs, programs that empower communities for conservation. “One hundred percent of the funds raised [in the Green Gala] go to support MINA, whether it is to our programs, our operations, and other general funding,” she noted.
The theme for this year’s Green Gala is the International Year of the Reef, or IYOR.
McDonald’s of Guam & Saipan is locally owned and operated by Joe and Marcia Ayuyu.
