In light of the Office of Public Accountability’s (OPA) report regarding the state of the Department of Corrections, Senator Brant McCreadie continues his pursuit of a new prison facility as a senator in the 33rd Guam Legislature with the introduction of Bill 5-33 (LS) also referred to as “The Department of Corrections Construction Initiative Act of 2015.”

“We started this movement in 2013 based on the outcries of all stakeholders and the overall need of a safe prison facility. It is unfortunate that no action was taken on Bill 172-32 in the 32nd Guam Legislature. In this new term as Senator I will continue to push forward for the construction of a new prison facility for the overall safety of the island community. We want a prison that is not only safe to house our prisoners, but safe to work in. We want a prison that can punish and rehabilitate. We want a prison that is constitutionally functional so that we will no longer face the cloud of federal receivership.
