The municipalities of Rota and Tinian have expressed their intention to collaborate with the new Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. to help their respective health centers.
Rota Mayor Melchor Mendiola said he “respects” the transitional period that the new officers are faced with. He described the “hardship” of this period as even a “greater challenge” than the corporation’s financial standing.
“They’re little by little meeting the requirements, although it’s a great challenge,” added Mendiola.
Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz, for his part, said that he has already met with Healthcare Corp. board chair Joaquin Torres and chief executive officer Juan N. Babauta “and we agreed to put together a partnership.”
“The mayor’s office will continue to assist them in infrastructure development. At present time, I’m still spending tons of money not only to expand but also to renovate the Tinian Health Center to make it more modern,” he said.
Mendiola and Dela Cruz were both on island last week for the 18th General Assembly of the Association of Mariana Islands Mayors, Vice Mayors, & Elected Municipal Council Members and the 1st CNMI Specialty Crop Conference.
