Mayor’s office finally gets new bucket truck
The Saipan Mayor’s Office has received a new bucket truck to aid with its mission of beautifying the island, according to the operations manager Joann Aquino
The new equipment requested by Saipan Mayor David Apatang finally arrived on island two weeks ago.
The newly truck can lift up to 500 lbs up to 55 feet off of the ground.
The truck underwent inspection for two weeks and was finally released to the office Thursday.
Aquino said there are currently four mayor’s office staff who are undergoing certification training to operate the machine.
Apatang said the truck cost between $70,000 and $100,000. The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation funded the truck.
According to Apatang, funds were set aside for the truck two to three months ago and it took awhile before the truck arrived on Saipan.
With the new equipment, the Saipan Mayor’s Office will now be pruning trees across the island and trimming trees that have not been cut in a while. This allows the office to carry out its tree-trimming projects without having to rely on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
Apatang and his office are extremely grateful for the budget that was set for the truck.
This week a specialist from the Professional Training Technology Inc. that is stationed in Guam, Davey Doby, came out to train the operators on the basics of operating the machine and the safety precautions each operator should take when working a bucket truck.
According to Doby, the operators were required to attend a safety bucket truck-training course that consisted of class lectures and hands-on training.
