‘Mayor’s Office not accepting marriage fees’

The Saipan Mayor’s Office has put up a notice to all marriage applicants that payments are being accepted at the Division of Treasury at the Guma Hustisia in Susupe.

According to Saipan Mayor Marian Tudela, the notice is to inform all those who want to secure a marriage license.

Tudela told Saipan Tribune that her office doesn’t receive payments.

“We do not accept any payments for I.D and marriage here at Mayor’s Office. Please remit your payments at any treasury cashier,” the notice reads.

The sign is posted in two places at the Mayor’s Office—at the entrance into the I.D. section and the marriage ceremonies section.

Tudela said she wants those who have paid at the Mayor’s Office to come forward and consult with the mayor’s special adviser, Henry Hofschneider, or herself.

According to Hofschneider, there is a public law that provides for an application of $50 for marriage fees that comes with a $10 fee for filing and $10 for a certified copy. The filing fee is for the Commonwealth Recorder’s Office.

According to Tudela, her office needs all applicants to be responsible for their payments and must be made prior to the notice that had been placed.
