Mayor’s Cup in Rota tees off Saturday

The Rota Mayor’s Office will be holding the inaugural Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament this Saturday at the Rota Resort & Country Club.
Show time is set for 6:30am with a 7:30am shotgun start.
“We invite golfers from Saipan, Guam, and Tinian to spend the weekend with us on Rota for a nice change of scenery out on the links,” said CNMI Office of the 13th Rota Municipal Council chairman George Hocog over the phone yesterday.
Hocog noted that they hope to make the Mayor’s Cup an annual event. He added that tourists are also more than welcome to participate.
Prize packages will be awarded to the Top 3 gross score winners and double-peoria/net score finishers. Prizes will also be issued to the fourth through 15th net finishers.
The top finisher in the double-peoria scoring will receive $1,000, free entry into the coveted Tournament of Champions Tournament, and a round trip ticket from Freedom Air. Second placer wins $300, a bottle of wine, and a golf towel and third finisher receives $100 and a new golf bag.
The golfer with the lowest gross score wins $300, entry into August’s TOC event, and a round trip ticket fom Freedom Air. The second best gross finisher gets $200, a bottle of wine, and a golf towel, and the third placer wins $100 and a golf bag. Other prizes for the remaining 12 finishers (net scores) include local airline tickets, hotel stays, various gift certificates, and other miscellaneous items.
In addition, there are two hole-in-one prizes on No. 7 and 14, along with a pair of closest to the pin and long drive prizes. Moylan Underwriting Insurance will be giving away $10,000 to the golfer who manages to sink No. 7 from the tee, while the Rota Mayor’s office puts up $3,000 for an ace on No. 14.
Entrance fee is only $110 per player, which includes admittance into the awards banquet. The tournament is limited to 70 players. Upon registration, refunds will not be honored to no-shows; other cancellation fees also apply.
Special group rates for room accommodation, airfare, and one practice round are available. The one-night packages (June 23) are available for $381 a couple, $544 for three, $707 for four, and $870 for groups of five. Two-night (June 22-23) packages are listed at $502 for two, $698 for three, $894 for foursomes, and $1,090 for parties of five.
Three-night packages (June 22-24) are available for $623 per couple, $762 for three, $961 for four and $1,160 for five.
Freedom Air, Mobil Oil, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Holiday Resort Guam, Café Air, Pacific Islands Club, Islander Rent-A-Car, Coral Ocean Point Resort Club, and National Office Supply are sponsoring the inaugural competition.
Hocog, CNMI Office of the 13th Rota Municipal Council’s chief of staff Steve Mesngon, vice chair Arvin Ogo, Rota Mayor’s Office’s chief of staff Efrain Atalig, and Rota Resort & Country Club’s Ephrain Tipa coordinated the event.
