May proclaimed Older Americans Month
A proclamation was signed yesterday morning at the Office on Aging to dedicate the month of May to all man’amko, or elderly, of the CNMI.
The proclamation designated May as Older Americans Month and was established to celebrate the elderly that are still alive in our community today. The document was signed by acting governor Victor B. Hocog.
One of the longest cultural beliefs of the island is that the elderly are to be treasured and respected.
The Commonwealth is determined to keeping this belief alive and has dedicated the whole month of May to the man’amko.
The man’amko will be taking advantage of May by filling it with different events that will lead to the coronation of the new King and Queen of the Office on Aging.
The community is also encouraged to take part in the appreciation of the elderly that are still in the community.
