May is Women’s Health Month

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. will be celebrating the month of May as CNMI Women’s Health Month to encourage women to become the primary caretaker of their health.

CHCC will be joining health organizations across the nation to celebrate National Women’s Health Month by urging women across the world to undergo regular health check-ups.

CHCC chief executive officer Esther Muña said there will be a proclamation signing on May 4 to kick off the celebration.

The goal is to empower women to make their health a priority. This intends to help women understand what steps they can take to improve their health.

As part of Women’s Health Month, May 11—the day after Mother’s Day on May 10—has been designated as National Women’s Check-up Day at the Women’s Clinic of the Commonwealth Health Center.

Women are urged to discuss with their health care professionals which of the tests are right for them, when they should have them, and how often.

Maintaining regular check-ups is one of five health habits that can improve a woman’s health. The others include physical activity, a healthy diet, not smoking, and following general safety rules.
