Max’s Restaurant overpowered Light & Salt 68-61, while Mawati defeated Connie’s BBQ, 65-62, in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League over the weekend at the Civic Center Court.

Max’s Restaurant recovered from a poor start last Friday and went all out in the fourth quarter to steal the win from Light & Salt. Max’s scored only 9 points in the first period and made up for it after firing 28 in the last canto.

Ogie Herrera carried Max’s on his shoulders in the fourth quarter, as he scored 13 points in the pivotal frame off multiple 3-pointers and free throws.

Herrera exchanged baskets with Rommel Usi, who tried to keep Light & Salt in the lead in the fourth quarter, but failed. Usi scored 12 of his team’s 18 markers in the final period.

In last Saturday’s lone completed game, Mawati prevailed in a neck-and-neck duel against Connie’s BBQ.

Mawati clung to a 61-60 lead, with under a minute left in the close game, and hung on in the end, thanks to the free throws of Frank Ferrer and Raymond Velasco and a field goal from Jerome Reyes.

Connie’s BBQ faltered in the tight match, as only Kerwin Dayao scored for the squad after they moved within one.

Mawati managed to escape with the win despite squandering an 11-point lead in the first quarter, 24-13. Kevin Rejano buried three triples in the opening quarter to give Mawati the double-digit lead. However, Connie’s BBQ fought back and kept its foe within striking distance, as Ronald Esmores and Darwin Barbo teamed up in the second and third quarters.
