Mawati punched the third semis ticket in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League after prevailing over Saipan Adventure, 71-58, during their playoff match last Friday at the Civic Center Court.

Down by 4 after the opening canto, 14-18, and still facing a deficit at the break, 28-30, Mawati finally moved ahead after scoring 24 points in the third—its best output in a quarter. Frank Ferrer led Mawati in the pivotal-third period after making 8 markers, while Raymond Velasco and Paul Quizon combined for 7 more markers, and Web Gontar, Arjay Nonato, and Jerome Reyes also hit baskets in the penultimate frame to give their team a 52-43 lead.

Mawati went on to notch a double-digit winning margin, as Velasco, Ferrer, Nonato, and Gontar teamed up in the fourth period.

Velasco ended up top-scoring for Mawati with his 18 markers, while Ferrer and Gontar added 15 and 12, respectively.

Jun Alipio had 15 points to pace Saipan Adventure, making 7 of them in the first quarter to put their team on top. Only him and Alvin Almario scored in the second period for Saipan Adventure, as the team clung to a 30-28 lead before eventually losing the upper hand when Mawati made the move in the third canto.
