Matansa tops girls U15 league

Matansa Football Club hammered Kanoa FC, 4-0, last Saturday at the Hopwood Junior High School Field to complete an undefeated record in the girls U15 division of the 2014 NMIFA Spring Youth Football League.

Matansa finished the season with a 6-4-0 win-draw-loss mark to place ahead of Tan Holdings FC (6-2-2), MP United (4-4-2), Shirley’s FC (4-1-5), Paire FC (3-2-5), and Kanoa (0-1-9). The girls U15 league champion collected 22 points against the 20 of Tan Holdings, which led the division in goals scored (36). Matansa had the second most goals in the two-round robin competition with its 28 and allowed the least (2) among the six participating teams.

Three Matansa players made it to the board in the team’s title-clinching victory over Kanoa. Sunny Woo drew first blood, scoring in the 38th minute, while Lyka Sally also hit her target three minutes later. Matansa then jumped to a 3-0 lead in the 61st minute off Barbara Peteru’s conversion, while Woo canned her second goal in the 67th minute.

In other results, Tan Holdings fell short in its bid to finish on top of the field despite a 2-1 win over Shirley’s FC, while MP United got a free victory after a no-show from Paire FC.

Chloe Salvosa drilled the pair of goals for Tan Holdings, posting both of them in the second half. She got her first five minutes into the second frame and the other one seven minutes later.

Katrina Costales notched the lone goal for Shirley’s, lighting up the scoreboard in the 33rd minute to lift her team to a shaky 1-0 halftime lead.

Meanwhile, MP United also had a perfect season in the boys U15 after defeating Matansa FC, 2-0.

Michael Lee and Sunjoon Tenorio scored one goal apiece to give MP United its eighth win in as many games in the five-team field. Lee found the back of the net in the 66th minute, while Tenorio registered the second goal in the 78th minute.

In the other boys U15 game at the Hopwood pitch, Paire whipped Shirley’s FC, 10-0.

Ivan Seo anchored Paire’s demolition of Shirley’s FC, as he tallied four goals. Anthony Fruit had a hat-trick, while Logan Mister and Jonah Pohl chipped in one apiece. Paire’s made it to the board off an own goal in seventh minute.

With the lopsided victory, Paire finished second in the standings with its 4-2-2 card. Tan Holdings and Matansa are tied for third with similar 3-1-4 slates, while Shirley’s failed to win a single match in eight games.
