Matansa and MP United blanked their respective foes in the U17 division games in the 2016 NMIFA Youth Spring League last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Matansa clobbered Paire in the first game, 8-0, while MP United shut down Tan Holdings, 3-0, in the second and final match last weekend.

Keeanu Diaz led MP United past Tan Holdings, as he knocked in a pair of goals in succession. His first came in the 42nd minute, while the second and last one was recorded in the 63rd. Joshua Abragan registered the other goal for MP United when he lit up the board in the 17th minute.

With the win, MP United now has a 4-0-1 win-draw-loss record to keep up with Matansa, which holds the same mark, but enjoys the top spot with its more goals than the former, 22-13.

Matansa added eight more goals to its total in five games after demolishing the hapless Paire (1-0-4). Jun Sik Kim scored three of those goals, while Terrence Evan Belcher and Joshua De Leon added two each, and Jether Yobech contributed one.

All of Matansa’s goals were made in the first half with Yobech starting the goals rush in the sixth minute. Kim got his first in the 10th minute and then completed the hat-trick when he found the back of the net in the 16th and 31st. Belcher earned his two goals in the 13th and 40th, while De Leon did the same in the 11th and 25th.

GIRLS U15
Matansa 7, Tan Holdings 1

Over at the San Antonio Middle School Field, Matansa cruised past Tan Holdings.

Matansa went all out in the second half, tallying five goals for the easy win. Janah Casarino sparked the breakaway with her back-to-back goals in the 36th and 39th minute, while Lyka Sally duplicated the feat, scoring in the 40th and 43rd. Leisha Sally nailed the last goal for Matansa in the 51st minute.

Catherine Barrozo earned the lone goal for Tan Holdings.

Shirley’s 5, MP United 4
Shirley’s avoided the upset axe of MP United after pulling off a come-from-behind win.

Jobelle Tabuena saved Shirley’s day after hitting the go-ahead goal in the second half. The final frame started with Shirley’s staring a 2-3 deficit. Jerlyn Castillo then made her first goal to equalize, but MP United got the lead back behind Gillian Villagomez’s.

A goal from Jasmine Phan forced another deadlock, which Tabuena later broke with her lone goal in the match. Shirley’s two goals in the first half came from Mia Carreon and MP United’s error, while Villagomez had a hat-trick for the losing squad in the opening half.

CO-ED U12
Kanoa 6, MP United 4

Kanoa outclassed MP United in the lone co-ed U12 A division match at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.

Brian Lubao delivered the go-ahead goal, while Wayne Lizama made the insurance in the second half, which began with the opposing squads tied, 3-3.

Kanoa hit the board off an own goal in the first half and drew its next two from Lizama and Lubao. MP United, on the other hand, got two straight goals from Dulan Kim and one from Rintaro Miyawaki.

Merick Toves broke the tie in the 40th, 4-3, but another goal from Kim seven minutes later set the fourth standoff before Lubao and Lizama’s goals secured the win for Kanoa.
The other game in the division was won by Tan Holdings after Paire failed to field enough players in last weekend’s match.
