Matansa downs Shirley’s FC, 3-1

Matansa Football Club triumphed over Shirley’s Football Club, 3-1, in M-League’s Division 2 game last Wednesday night at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Matansa got a break early in the match, as it was credited with an own goal off Shirley’s miscue, while Titu Ahmed and Jonathan Nogis scored the two other goals. Ahmed made it to the board late in the first half, while Nogis scored in the second. Shirley’s avoided a shutout when it drew a goal from Jerry Tan in the final frame.

In another Division 2 results, Sun Palace defeated the Thundercats in last Sunday’s fourth match, 3-0. Joon Kim led Sun Palace’s win after nailing a pair of goals, while Yongwoon Choi added one. Joon drilled both goals in the first half, scoring his first in the 24th and the second seven minutes later, while Choi lit up the board in the 59th minute.

The Thundercats absorbed back-to-back losses, as they also fell to Shirley’s last week, 2-3.

In the final match last weekend, Saipan World Resort forced a draw against Kanoa FC, 1-1.

Mason Fruit logged the equalizer in the second Division 2 game of the night, as he hit his target in the 46th minute. Earlier in the 16th minute, Jack Phan scored and gave Kanoa the lead.

In Division 1, Inter Godfathers, Korean Football Association on Saipan, and MP United prevailed in their respective matches,

Inter Godfather’s opened last Sunday’s action and edged defending champion Wild Bill’s, 2-1. Peter Loken and Arkie Reusora delivered the goods for Inter Godfather’s after scoring in the 17th and 77th minute. Jack Thoensaket registered the lone goal for Wild Bill’s with his shot in the 47th minute.

In the second game, KFAS also recorded a 2-1 triumph over Paire.

Jae Kwang Oh put KFAS on top with his goal in the 54th minute, but Paire knotted the count off Ajani Burrell’s goal three minutes later. Neither team scored in the remaining minutes of the first half and the drought continued for more than 20 minutes of the second frame before Ji Sung Cha nailed the go-ahead for KFAS in the 71st minute.

In the third match, MP United cruised to a 4-1 win over Tan Holdings FC.

Joe Miller anchored the victory with his hat-trick, while Zhi Peng Lin posted the other goal for MP United. Kwok Pun Wong made the lone goal for Tan Holdings with his conversion in the 15th minute putting his team on top. Miller then canned the game-tying goal in the 22nd minute, while Lin’s shot in the 69th gave MP United the upper hand. Miller went on to cap his strong showing against Tan Holdings with back-to-back goals in the second half (75th and 77th minute).
