Matansa-2 wins battle of sister teams

Matansa Football Club-2 nosed out Matansa-1, 3-2, during the curtain-raiser in the masters division of the 2019 Dove Spring Women’s League last Sunday at the TSL Sports Complex.
Valerie Hofschneider scored the winning goal for Matansa-2 in the 31st minute. Chautima Borja and Chirapan Mcquire also hit the board for Matansa-2 with the former putting their team on top in the seventh minute.
A Wasana Gregory shot in the 15th minute knotted the count, while Mcquire’s goal in the 23rd gave the lead back to Matansa-2 before Nang Aldrich’s conversion two minutes later forced the second deadlock in the match.
However, Matansa-2 had the last say, thanks to Hofschneider’s dagger.
MP United 6, Topnotch 5
In the second game, MP United withstood Topnotch’s rally to escape with a close win.
Behind 2-5 at the break, Topnotch fought back with Maria Ornes and Rena Reftang scoring.
Ornes had a pair of goals in the first half, making her first in the 13th minute and the second a minute later, while Aimee Weiss also had back-to-back (fourth and fifth minute)and MP United got two, too from Laarni Zapanta (11th and 21st) plus the goal of Chiharu Sato in the 22nd to take the lead at halftime.
Another goal from Weiss to start the second half gave MP United a 6-2 advantage, but Topnotch threatened to pull the rug under its foe when Ornes drilled two more goals (47th and 48th minute) and Reftang made it three in a row for their team in the 49th. However, MP United held its ground on defense in the last minute of the match to keep the win.
Kanoa 3, TanHoldings 2
The last game in the triple-header was also decided by only one goal with Kanoa edging TanHoldings.
Merlie Tolentino delivered the eventual game winner in the 34th minute to hand Kanoa a come-from-behind victory.
Kanoa faced a 0-2 deficit at the break before coming to life in the second half. Victoria Camama’s goals in the fifth and 12th minute gave TanHoldings a 2-0 lead in the first half. Amelia Quintos’ shot in the first minute of the second half moved Kanoa within one before Melanie Santos’ goal in the 30th tied the match. Kanoa went on to steal the win from TanHoldings off Tolentino’s go-ahead goal four minutes later.
