Matansa Football Club-1 and Topnotch downed their respective foes in the masters division of the 2019 Dove Spring Women’s League last Sunday at the TSL Sports Complex.

Matansa-1 edged sister team Matansa-2, 5-3, while Topnotch nosed out MP United, 4-3. In third match last weekend, TanHoldings and Kanoa had a draw.

Ivan Claire Gozon and Wasana Gregory scored two goals apiece for Matansa-1, while Nang Aldrich chipped in one. Gregory had her brace in the first half, while Aldrich also delivered early in the game to lift Matansa-1 to a 3-1 lead at the break. Valerie Hofschneider drilled the lone goal for Matansa-2 in the opening half.

Then in the second half, it was Gozon’s turn to knock in a pair of goals to keep Matansa-1 on top. Gozon scored in the 38th and 48th minute. Elna Curate and Noi Horey posted the two goals for Matansa-1 with the former finding her target in the 34th and the latter nine minutes later.

In the Topnotch-MP United tiff, Shawna Brennfleck made a hat trick, including the insurance in the second half.

Brennfleck had her first goal in the third minute and the second in the 23rd for Topnotch’s 2-1 lead. Laarni Zapanta scored in the 17th minute to keep MP United in the game.

Zapanta added one more in the second half, while Karen Aglipay also hit the board for MP United, but Topnotch hung on with Brennfleck getting her third goal and Marie Ornes also contributing in the final frame.

Meanwhile, Eun Benavente hit the equalizer for TanHoldings in the 48th minute, nearly two minutes after Merlie Tolentino gave Kanoa the shaky lead.
