Masga is fourth to file candidacy for Rota mayor
Harry James Atalig Masga filed Monday his candidacy for mayor of Rota as an independent bet for this Nov. 8 general election.
Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Kayla S. Igitol said that Masga submitted his petition for nomination and candidacy documents at the CEC in Susupe, making him the fourth individual to seek the mayoralty post in the First Senatorial District, or Rota.
Masga is employed by the Rota office of U.S. Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP).
For the first time in Rota history, six individuals are running or have signified their intention to run for mayor of the island.
First to file was Sen. Teresita A. Santos (Ind-Rota), followed by Magdalena San Nicolas Mesngon, who is currently a Head Start teacher. Last Thursday, U.S. Army veteran Alfredo Taisacan Taimano filed his candidacy. All three are running as independent candidates.
Those who have yet to file their candidacies are Commonwealth Economic Development Authority board chair Aubry Hocog of the Republican Party and Rodney Taisacan, who is a former Commonwealth Ports Authority seaport director.
Meanwhile, Frederick Atalig Manglona Jr. filed his candidacy Friday before a CEC staff on Rota for a seat in the Rota Municipal Council.
