MARPAC-Budweiser officials renewed their commitment of support for bowling when it handed a check for its annual sponsorship to the Saipan Bowling Association and the Philippine Bowling Association of Saipan.

MARPAC resident manager Guy F. Pudney and MARPAC beverage and tobacco sales manager James K. Lee presented the $6,000 check to SBA president Jerry Tan and SBA secretary general and league director Ross Zapanta.

The amount will cover the expenses of all tournaments and leagues organized by the SBA and the PBA as well as its membership fees to several international bowling associations. The SBA and PBA hosts two major tournaments each this year.

First on the SBA calendar is the annual CNMI May Masters Bowling tournament that will be held next month during the Memorial Day weekend from May 22 to 24.

The SBA also holds the monthly SBA-Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes for the whole year culminating with the annual year-ending tournament that will crown the King and Queen.

The 2015 season kicked off with Raymond Angeles winning back-to-back in January and February, while Diana Camacho topped the women’s side from February to March. Diane Chong was the female monthly winner in January while Robert Talavera topped March.

Simon Manacop and Camacho are the reigning King and Queen of the Lanes after ruling the season-ending roll-off held last Jan. 4 at the Saipan Bowling Center. Manacop and Camacho defeated Raymond Zapanta and Yho Villavicencio, respectively.

The PBA, on the other hand, will hold the PBA-Budweiser Bowler of the Year in June and the PBA-Budweiser Classified Tournament in August.

The SBA, a member of the International Bowling Federation, uses the proceeds from the said tournaments to fund the CNMI’s participation in international competitions.

The SBA is also a member of the World Tenpin Bowling Association, the Asian Bowling Federation, and the Asian Intercity Bowling Council.

The SBA and the PBA said the entire CNMI bowling community is thankful for MARPAC’s continuous support.
