The Tinian Mayor’s Office has been informed that an advance group of 30 U.S. Marines will arrive on Tinian on Aug. 22, 2014, to prepare for expeditionary air operations. The vessel carrying their equipment is expected to arrive at the Tinian harbor on or about Aug. 24, with land clearing at West Field Runway Echo to begin shortly afterwards.

This will be very similar to previous MAG 12 operations with a cantonment area at North Field, jet landing operations at West Field International Airport, and clearing operations on the old runway inside the military leaseback area. It appears there will be no closures to tourist sites within the military leased lands.

Additional information will be released as soon as it is available, according to Don Farrell, chief of staff of Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz.
