Marie Castro to speak at JKPL event
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is inviting the public to attend a special presentation by local author Marie S.C. Castro on Saturday, June 21, 2014, from 10am to 12pm at the Pacific Collection wing of the library.
If you missed her earlier presentations at the American Memorial Park Museum and Saipan World Resort, this could be your last chance on island to hear Castro speak about her experience growing up in the Northern Marianas during the Japanese Administration and then World War II.
Come see a short slideshow and hear her reflect on memories of the CNMI past and present. Read about her life story in her new book, Without a Penny in My Pocket: My Bittersweet Memories Before and After World War II, published by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council through funding received from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Copies of her book are now on sale at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library main lobby for $20 each. Castro will be available for autograph signings after her presentation.
For more information or to reserve your copy of the book, call JKPL’s Technical Services Librarian Rosalyn Ajoste at 235-7329. (PR)
