Add “Best Eagle Ray Watching Spot” to the growing list of international accolades for The Marianas.
The string of 14 islands was recently awarded the recognition at the 2018 Diving & Resort Travel (DRT) Taiwan Expo held on June 22-24, 2018, in Taipei, Taiwan.
“Anyone who spends any time on the water in The Marianas, whether diving, snorkeling, boating, or even just walking on the beach is going to have an eagle ray encounter sooner or later,” said MVA Managing Director Christopher A. Concepcion. “The establishment of several marine conservation areas in recent years has been a step in the right direction for ensuring that our vibrant sea life and underwater resources are sustained for residents and visitors, alike. We welcome divers to observe these incredible creatures at our famous Eagle Ray City and other sites throughout The Marianas.”
The DRT show is the largest such expo in Asia and hosts dive expos in several locations in Asia including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Taiwan, Philippines and Malaysia. In general, DRT expo hosts about seven dive shows each year with about 960 exhibitors from 50 countries and 90,000 visitors from 65 countries each year.
2018 DRT Taiwan attracted nearly 29,000 people, a majority of whom attended various seminars at the show, including two presentations by Marianas Ocean Tourism ambassador Yorko Summer, highlighted by videos and photos of The Marianas.
“This is a successful diving show because it attracted thousands of people to the MVA booth who asked for diving information,” said Summer. “Anyone who came into the expo was our target audience.”
At their exhibition booth, the MVA answered consumer questions, distributed diving and other information about The Marianas, met with industry VIPs, and screened informational videos of the destination. In addition, a Marianas Ocean Celebration was held to showcase Ambassador Summer’s new promotional video and photography work done in The Marianas. (PR)
