Rep. Glenn L. Maratita (R-Rota) wants to remove the limitations on the amount of tourism funds that can be distributed to Tinian or Rota.

Maratita has pre-filed a bill, House Bill 19-165, to remove this cap for funds from the Marianas Visitors Authority Trust Fund.

The bill says that current law places a cap on the funds available from the MVA Trust Fund for tourism promotion in the municipalities of Tinian and Rota.

It says the purpose of the amendment is to eliminate the cap so that the funds available for tourism on Tinian and Rota can increases, as the MVA Trust Fund grows as a the result of expanded tourism activity.”

The bill crosses out the “not more than” two percent or the “$400,000” of funds per fiscal year from the MVA trust fund that is equally divided to Tinian and Rota for charter flight tourism and promotional programs as mandated by current public law.
