Attorney General Edward Manibusan took the Saipan Golfers Association December Ace after placing runner-up in last month’s competition at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Manibusan shot a net 69, four strokes behind top finisher Frank Castro, who handed the December Ace to the former as the latter had already won the September award. The 13-handicapper Castro carded a 37 on the front nine and 41 on the back for a gross 78 and net 65. Manibusan, a 4-handicapper, earned a gross 73, built around his 36 and 37 on the front and back nines, respectively.

Steve Balakrishna joined Castro and Manibusan in the Top 3 in the December Ace tournament held last Nov. 19 after firing a net 70. The 11-handicapper Balakrishna recorded a 39 in the first nine holes and a 42 in the last for a gross 81.

In the closest to the pin contest, the winners were Alex Tudela, Castro, Nick Sablan, and Joe Demapan on hole Nos. 6, 8, 12, and 15, respectively. John Lizama, on the other hand, topped the longest drive competition on No. 14, while Ray Salas had the same feat on No. 7.

Meanwhile, with Manibusan getting the December Ace, he earned a slot to the SGA Ace of the Aces Tournament, joining early qualifiers Frances Sablan (January), John “Nanni” Cruz (February), Juan Lizama (March), Nick Sablan (April), Larry Deleon Guerrero (May), Das Krishnan (June), Balakrishna (July), Joe Demapan (August), Castro (September), Juan “Pan” Guerrero (October), and Tudela (November).

The SGA Ace of Aces will be played this Saturday at Kingfisher with a 9am tee time for the first round and 1pm for the second. Other SGA members can also join this weekend’s two-round event, but they will only qualify for the No. 1 to No. 6 prizes, while the Ace of Aces title will be given to one of the 12 monthly winners.
