Manibusan, Cruz are SGA January, February Aces

Attorney General Edward Manibusan and John “Nani” Cruz are the January and February Saipan Golfers Association Ace of the Month after winning their respective monthly tournaments held in different golf courses.

Manibusan dominated the January Ace at the Marianas Country Club last Jan. 18 where the 5-handicapper finished with a 72 to finish tied with Frances Sablan and Larry I. Deleon Guerrero.

Manibusan was declared the January Ace after the scorecard tiebreak. He was also the closest to the pin in holes No. 6 and 16, while also winning the longest drive in hole No. 2.

Sablan had a gross scored of 100 and a 28 handicap, while Deleon Guerrero tallied 92 and a 20 handicap for that 72.

Juan L. Babauta and Greg Sablan were the closest to the pin in holes No. 8 and 12, while James Nelson had the longest drive in No. 11.

The SGA February Ace moved to Lao Lao Bay Golf and Resort’s West course with Cruz clinching the monthly crown last March 8.

Cruz, a 19-handicapper, fired an 85 to finish with a 66 net score and an 8-shot win against three others who ended up tied from second to fourth spots.

Juan L. Babauta, Joe S. Demapan, and Joe I. Sablan all finished with 74s, but the former finished second and the latter fourth after the scorecard tiebreak.

Cruz was also the closest to the pin in No. 3, Steve Balakrishna took No. 7m while Manny Alvarez won Nos. 12 and 17. Anthony I. Deleon Guerrero had the longest drives in No. 2 and 12.
