Manglona sworn in as District Court chief judge

The year saw the U.S. Senate’s confirmation and the swearing-in of Ramona Villagomez Manglona as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the NMI-making her the first federal judge from the Northern Marianas and marking a true milestone in the history of the Commonwealth.
The U.S. Senate confirmed Manglona as chief judge of the District Court for the NMI for a 10-year term on July 26. Three days later, President Barack Obama signed Manglona’s commission, marking the first time for an indigenous person of the CNMI to serve as a federal judge.
Manglona was sworn-in in a private ceremony as chief judge in July. The following month, a historic investiture ceremony was held at the District Court.
At the ceremony, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Judge Mary M. Schroeder administered the oath of office for Manglona and served as the keynote speaker.
In her judicial address, the 44-year-old Manglona said it is truly and honor to be called to serve as a federal judge.
